Cloudinary Labs Launches With Focus on Innovation of Media

Since its founding in 2012, Cloudinary has blazed a trail for transforming, optimizing, managing, and delivering visual media as a paramount component in the digital world. And, while we are constantly innovating our product offerings and pushing the boundaries for what’s possible today, we’re also just as excited about what lies ahead and vigilantly exploring the work of our innovation teams. So, today, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of Cloudinary Labs, where we will bring new concepts to life, cultivate creativity, and spur ideas around all aspects of visual media. Among the initial projects is a brand-new proof of concept called MediaFlows, which explores the exciting new world of lowcode and provides an intuitive visual interface for building and automating media workflows

A Focus on Innovation

According to Daniel Amitai, vice president of innovation at Cloudinary, given the rapid advent of technologies, companies are constantly looking for ways to better interact with users. To meet that demand, Cloudinary Labs was formed to incubate ideas and showcase some of Cloudinary’s innovative research projects and experiments with groundbreaking concepts, concurrently initiating a dialog with our users. The projects include artificial intelligence and other modern approaches for coding and hyperautomation, with the aim of building cutting-edge capabilities that further enhance the ways in which e-businesses work with and present media.

Innovation, however, does not and cannot live in isolation. Cloudinary Labs welcomes feedback and suggestions from developers, media experts, and industry professionals as the projects progress and, in time, transition into bona fide, useful features on the Cloudinary platform.

Projects

Several projects and experiments are already underway at Cloudinary Labs, including the following:

  • MediaFlows, a hyperautomation tool that connects Cloudinary’s APIs and services with a visual interface, enabling developers and marketers to design, deploy, and automate custom media applications and processes in minutes. To that end, MediaFlows comprises widgets and interconnected Media Blocks for streamlining and automating the development of media applications and workflows.

  • Media Inspector, a Chrome extension that examines and analyzes media assets on your site, including information on how image and video transformations were performed along with file size, status, and such.

  • ServiceWorker, a tool to upload to Cloudinary at the browser level without changing a single line of code. ServiceWorker intercepts all image requests that the browser sends and replaces them with the Cloudinary fetch functionality.

A Reflection of Cloudinary’s Commitment

To Tal Lev-Ami, Cloudinary’s cofounder and CTO, the launch of Cloudinary Labs markedly reinforces the company’s commitment of enabling brands to harness the full potential of media. With its one million-plus users and industry partners worldwide, says Tal, Cloudinary is well poised to explore in depth the creation and use of online media and to capitalize on the findings.

Automatically Translating Videos for an International Audience

No matter your business focus—public service, B2B integration, recruitment—multimedia, in particular video, is remarkably effective in communicating with the audience. Cloudinary Helps Minted Manage Its Image-Generation Pipeline at Scale

Shoppers return time and again to Minted’s global online community of independent artists and designers because they know they can count on unique, statement-making products of the highest quality there. Concurrently, the visual imagery on Minted.com must do justice to the designs into which the creators have poured their hearts and souls. For Minted’s VP of Engineering David Lien, “Because we are a premium brand, we need to ensure that every single one of our product images matches the selected configuration exactly. For example, if you pick an 18x24 art print on blue canvas, we will show that exact combination on the hero images in the PDF.”
